Sunrise 20090603

Tony Duque (Raleigh, NC, United States) on 3 June 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Good reason to be an early riser... watch the sun rise!... with a healthy dose of déjà vu.

Nothing speaks as powerfully to life's opportunity as a sunrise, and I am drawn to witness and record them.

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

How are you erasing all the cloud cover? ;-) These "full sun" captures are impressive!

@Steven: Thanks for stopping by, Steven, and for your interest. The only "cloud cover" to speak of this morning was the haze toward the horizon, resulting (I'm guessing) from the long view through the atmosphere... i.e. no clouds were visible over-head. Here are two other wider views (just as they came off the camera) that show the sky to the east... one during early twilight (a bit over exposed), and one at sunrise proper just as the sun became visible.

One from Açores, Portugal

Outstanding ! A magnificent sunrise !
I love these beautiful colors !

@One: I love them, too... that hot pink sun we see during the summer (filtered through the humidity-driven purple haze) is one of my favorite sunrise colors. Thanks for your visit & comment... I'm so glad you enjoyed the shot, One!

Srujan Chennupati from Hyderabad, India

This is really a very beautiful shot, Tony.

Excellent image!!

@MiNe: Thank you, Leyla! That sun is a very photogenic and cooperative subject. ;-)

Vernon Anderson from Sydney, Australia

Now that's nice. How did you get the sun to be without glare, was there haze?

9 Jun 2009 1:55am

@Vernon Anderson: Thanks very much for your V & C, Vernon! Yes, major haze. During the summer months, there is almost always a "purple haze" low on the horizon here in the "humid south" (Raleigh is sort of on the northern edge of that). That haze greatly filters the sun's glare and results in various and interesting shades of hot pink or red-orange. Great fun!
